Audi, Lexus reveal hydrogen concept cars in Detroit - matthewsacketwound
Audi unveiled a sporty S.U.V. concept powered past a hydrogen fire cell at the North Ground International Auto Show on Mon.
Hydrogen fire cells change over hydrogen shoot a line into electricity, harnessing the most rich element in the universe to power a vehicle with the only spin-off being piddle vapor.
The technology is in its infancy, just concepts wish Audi's show that automakers trust H has a serious chance to replace gasoline in hybrid cars of the future.
The Audi h-tron quattro has two electric motors, one for the front wheels and united for the rear, with the hydrogen tanks at the back and the fuel cell where the engine usually sits.

The car manages 0-100kmph (0-62mph) in less than 7 seconds and has a top f number of 200kmph.
The interior is also pretty high-tech, with Audi's virtual cockpit, curved OLED screens, LTE connectivity and tablets to save passengers in the rear seats entertained. In that respect's besides "smart butler" software that promises to avail owners organize the luggage compartment.
A key benefit of hydrogen fire cells is a fast fill-up. It takes about 4 minutes to refuel a hydrogen railcar, more or less the same as a gasoline engine and many multiplication faster than an entirely-electric automobile.
There's only one hydrogen production car usable today. Toyota's Mirai is being offered in reduced numbers in Nippon and CA. But the lack of refueling stations effectively limits its kitchen range at present, A early buyers are finding out.
The Audi h-tron quattro has a range of 600 kilometers (373 miles), indeed if there's nobelium fill stations along the path, it means drivers would be able-bodied to travel a respectable 300kms (186 miles) before having to turn around and revert.
Also on Monday, Toyota showed its hydrogen-powered Lexus LF-FC to a To the north Solid ground hearing for the 1st time. First unveiled at October's Capital of Japa Motor Show, the LF-FC is paving the way toward the first hydrogen-powered Lexus, receivable away 2022.
"Building along our proven fuel cell technologies with this Lexus construct, we hope to achieve a tally of zip — zero emissions, zero dependence on oil," said Akio Toyoda, President and CEO of Toyota, As He conferred the car.
Toyota previously said the construct represents the future technology direction for its flagship sedan range.
The appearance of the concept car at the motorcar register doesn't mean information technology will be available any time soon. Several hydrogen concepts were shown at the event last year and are not in product, only information technology's clear automakers are paying attention to hydrogen fire cells and the benefits they may bring.
Withal, for all the talk about cleanliness, there is an important caution. At least at present, well-nig of the hydrogen used to refuel these cars is produced using natural gas, and so in the end the railcar still relies on dodo fuels. There are cleansing agent ways to grow hydrogen, so this could change in the prospective.
